The second of the three songs held over from the Art & Illusion sessions. Recorded in May 1984, as another of the 'MCA demos', this early version is shorter and more up-tempo than the version that would eventually appear on the Virgin/XII album.
lyrics
Synthesised, programmed and synchronised
Detailed, computerised - No room for air
Specified, labelled and classified
Free mind has paralysed imagination
Educate, break down and formulate
Dictate, don't speculate - don't be a failure
Parasite. Know/No sense - think, read and write
Translating black and white, Hungry for logic...
Logic! Logic! Logic! Logic! Logic!
Stand fast!
Take a look at yourself
In a moment realise we are thinking today
Take control!
Clinical, useful and practical
Always fanatical, controlled existence
Generate, design and integrate
But never simulate human reaction
Action! Action! Action! Action! Action!
Stand fast!
Take a look at yourself
In a moment realise we are thinking today
Take control!
Take control!... Troll!
Control! Troll! Troll!
Doting on the silicon, enslaved by self-design
Dependant on the life-blood and body of their ‘Son’
Each cry for understanding begins and ends at the grave
From cradle to grave
Null and void emotion break free of this system
Opening eyes finding release
Each breath of inspiration begins and ends at the grave
From cradle to grave
Synthesised, programmed and synchronised
Detailed, computerised - no room for air
Specified, labelled and classified
Free mind has paralysed imagination
Nation! Nation! Nation! Nation! Nation!
Stand fast! Take a look at yourself
In a moment, realise we are thinking today
Take a look! Take a look!
Take control of yourself
For a moment, realise we are thinking today
Today, Today

I remember the excitement when The Sentinel was released having seen the band live a few times before. I loved the album but was aware that there were tracks missing and it had been rumoured that it was to be a double album. To hear all these takes and works in progress takes me right back to the 80's and the buzz of all the new prog that was coming out back then. This is an absolutely essential purchase for any Pallas fan. nuttinikki

This is an absolutely fantastic collection featuring near perfect newer run-downs of the Atlantis suite and Wedge tracks (with Rat Racing being my definitive entrance to this period, wonderful) as well as great and heavy concert sessions of The Cross and the Crucible and Sanctuary (personal favourite). My favourite bundle so far. futureperfect93
