ii. Beyond that Door Lucky Jim staggered through the corridor His heart torn apart with grief By the window lay the bouncers' victim The body of the 'Thief' His head smashed through the window pane As they'd thrown him out of play There was blood on the glass But the glass was smashed And there shone the light of day Lucky Jim bowed his head and wept For the light and the pain were despair Then he opened his eyes to the grass and the skies But the Thief was no longer there About to step out through the broken frame The gambler heard the Thief call his name: 'The Casino is falling, its days at an end For I came when you called me, And now I call you Friend - You will come this way one day I'll be here when you do I have opened the doorway But not just for you... Now I send you to find Those lost in their gambling The deafened and the blind If you fall by the tables If you're cut by the cards If they say you've been stealing If you're shot by the guards If you're flattened by tumblers If you're crushed by the wheels I'm before you I'm with you And remember I know I know how it feels I know how it feels...' iii. Overheard in Passing #3 (bouncers on the door) 'The punters 'ave got restless, it seems one of 'em escaped! There's got to be a clampdown, unless the crud gets aped...' 'It seems to me that one who's free is the beginning of a trend - It's too late now to disallow, the punters 'ave a friend... 'Oo knows - 'tween you 'an me, I might even 'ave a go myself...'

The abstracted shapes Of the people's thoughts Different shops and pubs All the cheap facades It is all this city It is all this city Wind shaken trees Half crumbling parks The enquiring eyes Fingers parting lace It is all this city It is all this city Long straggling queues Of the out of work A baby sucking sweets Dribbling down his quilt It is all this city It is all this city All this city

Human Being 07:54
Tremulous and quivering such victims as there are Contend with emotions under skin Without wearing water wings The strike against the stream Hopelessly believing they might swim Here they all come rushing down again Here they all come rushing down again Time has hardly swallowed up the evidence How is it they say they did not know That history grows up like a weed Doctrine pinned upon it Bars across the window destroy human being Static mind solidifies Can no longer flow Up against it's borders and unable to pay Much attention to... Human being, human being Human being, human being When in doubt you turn to find a scapegoat on the wall Gaze into the mirror begging pardon If every time we tell a lie a little fairy dies They must be building death-camps in the garden Pacing back and forwards Conscience in a box Barred in from the sunlight getting pale And losing every sense of... Human being, human being Human being, human being The forces of oppression Forge links around the earth Ordering our faces to the floor The wilful non-involvement By hirelings of the crimes Is futile and inhuman as before The sum of our best efforts Shouldn't lead us back to here On the road to murder Where we can no longer admit to any Human needing, human feeling Human living, human loving Human fragile, human being

How can we fight the diseases of the poor When colour of a nation is reasoning for war Men force your surrender, then ask you to believe With the lives of many millions embroidered of their sleeves And they say Is this reason – a price to pay? Give us reason – a first new day Acid emotion – child of suicide Bewilderment and hunger are hurting you inside While hopes find protection in the sanctuary of life Another voice is silenced in the quiet of the night Is this reason – price to pay? Give us reason – a first new day This won't change There's no point now There's no fight left in you and me It's not true Don't believe it You don't mean what you're trying to say This love is only strong enough If you can hide inside your heart Just for a while All breathe together, suffocate the fear Let each of us in comfort share the pain, the tears, the years Don’t let their hate be the dowry of a youth Too humble for importance Too honest for the truth Is this reason – a price to pay? Give us reason – a first new day Give us reason – a first new day

Apathetic and Here, I watch myself glide from the sky, Losing height and end up as something gone bump in the light Which doesn’t desire to be dragged from the night: But change is the heartbeat of life into life Which trembling approaches the knife. Redemption is costly there’s blood on the land And all of us till it, it sticks to our hands It seems to be bound up in our very glands; It sucks all out wagon wheels into the slush And falsifies our every blush. The heart’s a thermometer, readings are odd We’re from luke-warmer regions where Cain gives the nod And we tread upon roads where our fathers have trod We are maples and hapless and blown by the breeze And we chatter of being at ease Dreary me We chatter of being at ease.

Melody fly like a seagull Over a rhythm, over this 'C' Enter the movement Real and imagined Listening together Do we hear the same? When you look beneath the surface You will find More to this than meets the eye Turbulent times in our thinking Growing is painful Smiling through scars Fear of indifference Selfish or loving I think it's a mixture Well, it mixes in me When you look beneath the surface You will find More to this than meets the eye Trembling hearts mingle beatings Our great adventure Is living to love Hurting and praying Life and death weighing Shallow and human Touched by divine When you look beneath the surface You will find More to this than meets the eye

Try me in the fire and melt me down Test me as you will Re-design my life to be the mould You want me to fill In you I have a complete confidence I've never known before In you I have a complete confidence In you I rest assured Break me if it's right to save my life You know what is best Give me what you know I need to serve Take away the rest Chorus Make a roaring flame of my desire To be in your employ Here into your hands I place my life My sorrow and my joy Chorus
9.
On the long night watch you are surrounded by darkness And your spirits feel tired So many around you deeply down in the dream world Of the skins they have acquired Walking along the lines and contours where the pathway goes You stumble on non-places in the darkness and bang my nose Deep in the heartland, the painted window is breaking Deep in the heartland, the house that holds it is shaking Solid things seem to disappear down the grid they pour If references lead us nowhere, what are they for? (Chorus) It’s falling apart Big men drive you crazy, put their lies inside your head The voices of confusion, even follow you to bed You’ve seen something not exactly hidden But someone’s been trying We’ve all seen things are officially denied Someone’s been lying! (Chorus)

Last Song 05:30
The tighter the turn, the harder the means of escape The deeper the nail, the stronger the coffin we make You're free – glory! Hope you will find silence The biggest attraction, the hardest the habit to break The sharper the needle, the lesser the mark that we make Run to me, you're crying Ohh, life has served you well What's in the ? (Waltzing the fort?!!) What's in the ? The (smoother the moon?), the smoother the music we make The less (?) that we learn, the sadder the heart we break My heart is something more precious than gold You know something I love you, take it all Young hearts in pain Look to the rain – So lonely Nothing to say Cloudy and grey So lonely Sleep tight Tired of learning How are you? Sleep tight Dream away The louder the brave, the darker the secrets they fear The weaker the mind, the stronger the voice will appear Oh you'll get over glory Song of joy today is gold All this time what have we solved? Someone will take it away Sleep tight Tired of learning How are you? Sleep tight Tired of learning How are you? There may be time to (sleep tight) Dream away Circle on circle of… Young hearts in pain Look to the rain So lonely Nothing to say Cloudy and grey So lonely Young hearts in pain Look to the rain Nothing to say Cloudy and grey So lonely Circle on circle of… So lonely Circle on circle of… Young hearts in pain Who's going to take your all nightmares away? They're going to take you for one last song So lonely

about

Twelve tracks for Christmas :-)

This is a sampler album, designed to introduce you to various tunes that you may not yet have discovered. Hopefully you will love every one, but in any case we hope it will interest you enough to investigate the parent album further.

The title, as those of you of a certain age may realise is, like the previous sampler we released in July 2020, a conflation of the titles of the first two Island Records sampler LPs released in 1969... but using the words we didn't use last time! These albums introduced me to a number of artists whose music has stayed with me ever since... Brian Devoil - December 2020

It features tracks from no less than 10 different albums, 7 different artists, 4 different Twelfth Night line-ups, and includes one previously unreleased instrumental track from 1980.
